Highland Park Healthcare has been a staple in the Okmulgee community since its doors opened in 1961.  The therapy team is well known around town and is the only Skilled Nursing Facility in the area with a full-time physical therapist and a full-time speech-language pathologist.

The Team

  • Ron Duncan, our Lead Physical Therapist, has 26 years’ experience working in skilled nursing facilities as well as home-based health care, and acute care. He has also served as an adjunct professor for the Langston University’s physical therapy program. In addition, Duncan is certified in Neuro-developmental Treatment — a strategy designed to enhance the function of adults who have difficulty controlling movement as a result of neurological challenges, such as cerebral palsy, stroke, and head injury.
  • Kaylor Carlton Dunlap, our Speech-Language Pathologist, has more than 10 years’ experience working in skilled nursing facilities as well as home-based health care, acute care, and outpatient therapy, She has also served as an adjunct professor for the Tulsa University’s communication and swallowing disorders program. Currently, she is a clinical instructor for the Tulsa University Speech-Language Pathology graduate program. Furthermore, she is VitalStim® certified — a non-invasive therapy that uses an electric current to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing. It is the only FDA-cleared device for treatment of dysphagia (swallowing difficulty).
  • De’Von Bailey, our Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is currently pursuing a degree in occupational therapy and gives back to the occupational community by serving as a clinical instructor for the Tidewater Community College’s Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

The therapy department within Highland Park includes a kitchenette area to practice daily living activities, SciFit® equipment, an E-Stim/Ultrasound unit, a VitalStim® unit (for dysphagia treatments), stairs, a standing frame (assistive technology), and parallel bars.

Our rehabilitation equipment supports therapy services for improved function of any diagnosis.

Additionally, Highland Park residents enjoy a beautiful, large outdoor courtyard where they plant flowers and tomatoes each spring.  We take pride in our fantastic reputation and are honored to nursing and rehabilitation needs of Okmulgee and the surrounding area.
