“My name is Edward Melton. I have four children and have been married 30 years. By trade, I was a bricklayer. I am Native American Creek. I had to come here to Highland Park as a referral from a hospital stay resulting from prior falls in my home. When I first came in here, I was unable to walk, but I can now. I enjoyed therapy. The hardest part was sitting up. I am looking forward to the freedom and ability to cook myself something to eat when I get home. “I used to work at the Golden Pony Casino for 11 years until my legs got too weak. So, I started using a walker, then I had a wheelchair for the last 2.5 years and I told myself I had to get out of this chair. I went to the doctor and discovered I needed surgery for my knee, so I had knee replacement which is why I came here. I have three kids, two boys and one girl. I live with my daughter. I used to love walking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and mowing.
When I first came, I didn’t want to be here but after only a couple of times with therapy I got up and was walking again and that made me feel so much better! The therapist tries to push you as far as you can go but not too far to where you are hurting too bad, and I liked that. The hardest thing was standing in place for long times, that was tough and took me awhile. The therapists are very friendly. If I had to have rehab again, I’d come back here but I will be honest, I hope I don’t need it again. The nursing staff checked on me frequently and were very friendly. Michelle, Ryan, and Rikki were great. When I first get home, I will see my dogs, and I look forward to being able to walk my dogs again and just get my life back.” — Linda Williamson | April 2021
